We all have heard the phrase “Clients get what they deserve”. This statement is often given both in good projects and bad projects. Its true to some extent, clients does play a very important role in any project or advertising campaign completion and its results. However its just not a client or a providing company who can destroy a project, it can be “both”
Let's see how clients participate in any project and effect the outcome of it.
Clear Requirements
First and most important is providing clear and final requirements to the development company. Client must do his/her home work prior to asking for a quotation from any company. The home work for a website should include following.
- A well written Business Plan
- Target Audience Identification
- Website Feature List (System Requirement Specifications)
- Competitor Websites (Competition Analysis)
- Reference Websites
- Time Frame
- Budget
If a client do not provide clear instructions, it will take more time to find out what is required for the development company. Another important issue is requirement change time to time, which can hurt a project's development. Such conditions increase the project failure chances.
Fair Budgeting
As per the world economics, all of us do tend to find the lowest price possible for any solution we need. However, we must not ignore the fact that we might compromise project quality by under budgeting a software or web development project.
To have the best estimate for the right price of a project, a client should send his/her requirements to multiple companies and differentiate their offerings. Simply going for the lowest price might not be the best option for your business.
False Time line Pressure
We have often seen clients putting unnecessary pressure for a quick completion of a project. Squeezing the required time line of a project will not let the project grow fully. Which will effect in spending more time later fixing things, and in the end we spend a lot more time than we should have actually, if provided the right time line in the first place.
Timely Feedback and Decisions
Creative projects always require decisions made by clients time to time during the development. The client have to get involve truly in the project to post required feedbacks without much delays. Sometimes clients are too busy to even comment back on their own projects, yet expecting a wonderful completion. Providing clear and timely feedbacks help to complete a project in time and budget.
Trusting the provider
If you have hired a professional individual or company to work on your project, then you should also trust their opinions. We do not see a point in hiring a professional doctor but take medicines we like
If you do not trust a provider, then simply don't hire him/her. If the client and the provider don't work as a team, the outcome of a project is disastrous.
Timely Payments
Finally a Client needs to make timely payments which assure that the provider company is getting the result of the hard work. Late payments can slow down provider progress and damage the final outcome.
